The calmness of a quite Friday

Since tomorrow is Saturday, and because I would not be working, I should be writing a very impressive post may be about making some insane apple, cinnamon, brown sugar, buttery, nutty, flaky, crumbly, yummy thing or some marmalade because I think I'm a real life chef. But then I remember I'm not! hahaha!!! Instead, I'm curled up in my bed, very much at my little bird house in Bombay, delightfully alone while most people I know are holidaying with friends and family.

Does anyone else also get bored of endless blogging and networking on FB? Sometimes I just want to chuck the laptop, take a walk around the block, go watch some puppet show, or may be go work in a flower shop arrange and smell flowers, or open a photo studio so I can see all that others refuse to see about human beings in this fast paced city life.

The past year has been a total whirlwind, it feels like practically everything has changed. It's all terribly exciting and nerve-wracking. I live alone and have become a workaholic. With more ideas, and dreams and in all sincerity, I am very lucky. But in all this hustle bustle come Christmas time and I start missing Delhi winters… my woolen clothes, the soft quilts, my mittens, and of days when you can't leave the house without a jacket, the cold breeze on your face and hair. Look at me, now when I am writing this, I have started to miss my childhood. As kids my big sister, and I smelled like pears. Mom had some pear-scented something that she would apply so our skin stayed soft and fragrant. It did the trick and in fact each time I look at those pictures it makes me want to pinch my own cheek. LOL! I can’t forget to mention about how funny I was with my sister. One day, we would be throwing pillows at each other's heads because she would have eaten a portion of my cake and then ‘bammm’, you grow up and can't live without each other.

But why am I saying all this…

I guess I have everything I want in life but, I still sense there is a big space still left to be filled. Is that the reason I am going down memory lane, or I am thinking of my home town, my days with my sister, mom, and the craft work we did together. I get interested to think of something and then am just as quickly on to the next thing… Even now, while I type this, I am also playing with my new telephoto-lens. But looks like my camera too has lost its ability to focus, as did my mind. I don't see exactly what is missing in this beautiful life and night so I would go and make some tea with ginger, cinnamon, and lemon grass. May be by then I would know what is missing… :)

There comes a time when you must stand alone and follow your own dreams. I do have a bit of exciting news that will have to wait till I can do it justice. Till then be well, be happy!

Little Things That Make Us Happy

When I feel sad, I simply remember my favorite things…

My favorite things

Raindrops on roses and window,
Bright copper kettles, Crisp red apples,
Brown paper packages tied up with jute strings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Cream colored pastries with bright cherries,
Doorbells, cow bells, and birds that fly with the moon on their wings.
Little girls in white dresses with cute hairclips,
Silver white winters that melt into springs,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Little things are responsible for our happiness. We call them little things because they happen to us every day and we tend to let them pass unnoticed. But these happy thoughts are responsible for our happiness. When we smile or when someone smiles to us, it fills our hearts with happiness. It is very easy to smile and because of that we think it´s not so important or as big.

We came to think that only the things we struggle for are important. That is not correct. We are happy holding the loved one in our arms, with the smell of rain on soil, the smell of plantation, smell of fresh baked cookies, dew drops on grass blade, smiling face of a kid, dinner with family. Happiness is in the meaning of the things, not in the things themselves.

Here is where the happiness is!
Wishing everyone all the happiness they deserve.

A happy week in my life!

This week started of very well. Sunday, was a bit too planned, a bit too well executed, a bit too early. Well… miracles happen! A visit to Baba Nityananda's Ashram at Ganeshpuri, zero traffic, good road, beautiful weather, greenery all around, a no nonsense cab driver, followed by a simple lunch and perfect Aarti at the temple. A break from monotony surely works wonders.

Monday went off well too. All tasks at work accomplished without any bullying or complaints from the project lead. I was about to leave for the day when my thoughts were interrupted by a telephone ring… its my Mom, I know… She is a woman with a big heart and a much bigger smile! That call was to let me know that my recipe for mint-cinnamon-ice tea was good. She actually finds a reason to call me everyday exactly at 5:45pm just to check if my day at work went well. You can't fool her, she is blessed with oodles of 'Mother Instinct'!!! I reached home calm and peaceful witnessing golden sunrays being slowly replaced by silver lunar beams. This transition brought with it a temporary restlessness to me more so because a friend was suppose to visit home that evening. I gave a quick glance to check if everything was in place... Cushions, floor mat, tea lights, the glasses... finally the door bell rang, he was there at 'my little bird house' [no don't get surprised I don't live in a tree house, this is what the small wooden board outside my apartment says] Amidst all the liveliness, and distractions an hour passed too soon than I could imagine and he left. Quite a beautiful relaxed evening!

Sometimes simple things make you happier than any big complex success.

Tuesday, it was my nephew Aditya's 10th birthday! He is far far away in terms of geography but still closer than I can imagine. He lives in my heart, his cute demands and mechanisms to melt my heart blossomed numerable thoughts. It would be still night for him, so mentally I wished all good things and got back to the series of mundane morning activities. It was like any other day with office friends, project discussions, assignments, presentations. After work the plan was to go for a movie '2012' but that somehow got cancelled and so I went for my 30-min of slow running at the nearby park. While running I made up my mind to take up a certification course in Paragliding at Kamshet (45kms from Pune) with Avi, an ex-air force fighter pilot who runs 'Temple Pilots' in sync with his wife Anita. One of my favorite song 'I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch the sky...' seems to be manifesting. I was extremely excited so, this time that reflected in what I had for dinner... some yummy homemade chaat paapdi with fresh watermelon juice! :)
A heart -to- heart conversation with my dear friend Tina, 30-min of meditation, and a goodnight call to dad concluded the day. I wish all days were as sweet and brought immense satisfaction within!

It's Wednesday today and here I am standing by the window.
As I sip the hot coffee, a cool breeze pours in and disturbs the elevating steam from the coffee mug. I look down, there is an unusual quietness on the road, it is also quite unusual of me standing by the window and sipping the coffee. I would love to do it often but somehow our office pantry hardly offers a quiet time. But like I said it seems to be a close to perfect week for me. So everything seems to be absolutely perfect!

Alls well that ends well... hope the next 3-days of this week bring along many more moments that inspire me to write, enjoin, and stitch so to shape them into a concrete memoir.

You are here to be you... just you!

We all are a Masterpiece of our own !!!

A plum once said, just because a banana lover came by, I converted myself into a banana. Unfortunately, his taste changed after a few months and so I became an orange. When he said I was bitter, I became an apple, but he went in search of grapes. Yielding to the opinions of so many people, I have changed so many times that I no more know who I am. How I wish I had remained a plum and waited for a plum lover.

Just because a group of people do not accept you as you are, there is no necessity for you to strip yourself of your originality. You need to think good of yourself, for the world takes you at your own estimate. Never stoop down in order to gain recognition. Never let go of your true self to win a relationship. In the long run, you will regret that you traded your greatest glory - your uniqueness, for momentary validation.

There is a world for each one of you. Find that world... in fact, that world will find you.
What water can do, gasoline cannot and what copper can, gold cannot. The fragility of the ant enables it to move and the rigidity of the tree enables it to stay rooted. Everything and everybody has been designed with a proportion of uniqueness to serve a purpose that we can fulfill only by being our unique self. You as you alone can serve your purpose and I as I alone can serve my purpose. You are here to be you... just you.

In the history of the universe, there has been nobody like you and to the infinite of time to come; there will be no one like you. Existence should have loved you so much that it broke the mould after making you, so that another of your kind will never get repeated. You are original.

You are rare.
You are unique.
You are a wonder.
You are a masterpiece...
Celebrate your Uniqueness!!!

Dreams

This time in my dreams
Sky is my blanket
Moon my pillow
Stars glitter my smile
And dew drops - tears of joy.
Fresh breeze caress me
Angels shower their love and
Tulips tickle my cheek.

A friend once told me
Girl, you live in a world of dreams
I were smiling at this thought
To wake up and open my eyes
An ounce of fear, a glare and I shiver
Was that just a dream?
I turned around and found you there
I am awake and know that dreams do come true!

STRINGS ATTACHED…

At times in life
We meet someone special
What is heard is a heart beat...

At times in life
We smile for no reason
What is left is happiness we want to hold.

At times in life
We are jealous and insecure
What is left is a pain unknown.

At times in life
We giggle and chuckle, and shout
What is left is a beautiful thought of the moment

At times in life we cry in pain
The tears are hot, and heart goes cold
What is left is a deep pain that haunts.

At times in life,
We drift apart, we move away,
What is left are the strings attached.

Life is short, and precious

Life is short and precious
It is beautiful and gorgeous

It is sad when we are loved, we take it for granted
When deprived of love, we crave to be wanted.

We doubt the most wonderful relationships
Fake, break, and rip apart what should be cherished

Wish we could get what we gave
The compassion, the love, emotion and praise

We all have dreams to be fulfilled
With all my heart I wish they live and not get killed!
It is amazing to know
When treasured how lavish it can grow

I pray to God each day,
That in my little heart the music of love, and compassion continues to play...

When I die and my soul goes up in the sky
There is a smile on my lips and a tear in my eye

For I now know, life is short, beautiful, and precious
A colorful canyon and in search of a perfect sunset!
